My VMA Red Carpet Recap

Monday, August 31, 2015

On the night of an award show you can usually find me scouring Twitter, checking out the red carpet looks. I love seeing what all of the celebrities wear and who is best and worst dressed.
Last night was the 2015 Video Music Awards! Like I'm sure many of you did too, I tuned in to MTV at 8pm to watch all the stars walk the carpet. Most importantly, I could not wait to see Taylor Swift's Wildest Dreams music video, which I loved!
From some of the craziest to most elegant looks, I'm here to show you my favorite and least favorite looks of the night!

Favorites:

Vanessa Hudgens showed up in a lovely Naeem Khan dress. This dress screamed her name, one hundred percent! Vanessa is known for her signature bohemian style  so it was no surprise to see Vanessa in this ensemble. The floral design on the dress accompanied with longer necklaces and bangles added the bohemian feel. Vanessa completed her look with signature loose waves in a half updo. The only thing I wish was different is the shade of the dress. It seems a little too close to her skin tone. Overall, I really like this look and it definitely fits her style!

Demi Lovato is nothing less than confident in this stunning skin-tight dress. Demi looked AMAZING in this geometric print, light pink and nude dress.
I love the simplicity of her look. I'm glad she wore minimal jewelry so the focus stayed on her dress. Another thing I love about her dress is the proportion. The long sleeves mixed with the mini skirt adds a touch of elegance to her look. She looks sexy, but isn't showing too much skin.
Since Demi is on the shorter side, the plunging neckline was a good choice for her. It elongates her face and torso, which helps her look taller.
I'm really loving this look. It all looks SO good on her, including her makeup!

Greer Grammer wow'd everybody in this berry colored dress. I think it's the perfect color for transitioning from summer to fall.  I noticed that I tend to like the more simplistic red carpet looks. I think it's because a simplistic look shows the celebrities beauty in a more elegant way.
Greer's dress features a plunging neckline with a long handkerchief skirt. The neckline and slit on the side shows just the right amount of skin without being too scandalous. Since the neckline is so low, I wish she wore a longer silver necklace instead of a collar one.
This dress looks great on her and the silver accessories look superb with it!

Least Favorites:

I know Kim Kardashian is pregnant, but I think she could have done way better than this. The dress isn't a flattering color, the lace up neckline is a little bazaar and the pockets on the hips don't make much sense.
If Kim opted for an A-line or baby doll dress, it would have suited her much better. Let's hope she looks better on the next red carpet.

Ciara arrived at the VMA's in a very confusing look. I'm not quite sure what is going on here. Is it a dress? Are there shorts under there? The fringe seems a little extreme for me, I'm not really liking this look. I think it would've looked better if less skin was showing on top and middle and then cinch the waist in. This way the fringe would mostly be part of the skirt instead of draping across the entire body.

The host of it all....Miley Cyrus. Miley is known for her crazy, out of this world wardrobe choices. It was no surprise Miley walked down the red carpet in a close to nothing outfit. We can only hope Miley shows less skin on her next red carpet appearance, but nobody can really know what to expect from her.

An Outfit of the Day

Monday, August 24, 2015

Two days ago I moved into my apartment at school, things have been a little crazy. I finally got situated and thought it'd be a perfect time to post!

I wore this outfit a few days ago and it's one of my go-to's in the summer. I love this dress because I feel like I don't need to accessorize it much. It's patterned and detailed, I wouldn't want accessories to take away from that. My absolute favorite part is the back! The bows down the back make it unique. I haven't seen many dresses like this before.

My hat I'm wearing is from Target. When I saw a lot of hats this style on Pinterest, I loved how versatile they were! It's perfect for any season. I can put it on and it instantly upgrades my outfit! I've see hats this style at American Eagle, The Limited, Forever 21 and Target.

3 Fall Trends to Start Your School Year in Style

Thursday, August 13, 2015

As soon as the calendar turns to August 1st it feels like there is a little robot in everyone's brain that turns on the switch for back-to-school mode. Working in retail makes this hard to avoid, but I can't help but notice the earlier and earlier arrival dates for back-to-school supplies, clothes, everything! It's crazy that I'm already going back to school in two weeks, I'm excited, but it also feels like summer went by faster than I could blink.

Even though I'm not looking forward to starting schoolwork again (EWW), one thing that always gets me excited about the new school year is the fall fashion! I absolutely love seeing what new styles are in stores, what is popular, what the "in" colors are. Plus, who doesn't want to treat themselves to a new outfit before heading back to school?  I can't forget to mention with fall comes scarves, layering and did I mention scarves?! Here are three fall trends to ensure you start your school year in style!

1. Booties

Don't say goodbye to your lovely riding boots yet, just make a little extra room for a new pair of booties! I love how this style of shoe is so versatile. They look great with a casual outfit, yet you can dress them up for a night out. I'd say booties are the most popular style of shoe for the fall!

2. Denim Skirt / Jeans

To be honest with you, I'm still a little iffy with the denim skirt trend. I've seen so many people in magazines and on Instagram wearing these types of skirts. I think they look cute on, but I'm not quite sure if I can pull this trend off. Part of me is like "hey this is cute, wear it" and another part of me is like "oh no this is middle school all over again, don't wear it". I might try some of these on and see how they look, but if you have one, go wear it with confidence because you have the guts to pull it off!

As we saw in spring and currently in summer, the 70's has had a major influence in fashion. The 70's trends are being carried over into fall fashion, it definitely isn't leaving anytime soon! Flared jeans which were huge in the 1970's are reemerging, looking hotter than ever! Flared jeans aren't particularly my cup of tea, but if you're into them, they're definitely a staple for your fall wardrobe!

Girlfriend jeans are another new fall trend that are becoming quite popular. This style is more relaxed than your traditional skinny jean, yet it isn't as baggy as the boyfriend jean. These are great for an effortless, yet put together look! To complete your effortless look, be sure to pair them with flats, a stylish sneaker or a pair of heels!

3. Printed Leggings

This is a trend I'm really liking for the fall! Adding a print to a classic pair of black leggings is a unique twist to revamp your outfit! Try pairing a pair of printed leggings with a solid color tunic or a duster sweater to complete your look!

Disney Princess Inspired Outfits

Wednesday, August 5, 2015

Hey everyone! This post was really fun for me to do! If you didn't know this about me yet, I absolutely love Disney and I wish I could teleport to Disney World whenever I wanted. I got the idea for this post from an article I saw on Seventeen.com called, "If Disney Princesses Went to College", read it here. I thought it would be fun to create my own outfits inspired by them. Using the website Polyvore, I created four outfits inspired by a few of my favorite princesses, Cinderella, Ariel, Belle and Snow White!
